No Cash, No New Purchases

This past week I did not make any new purchases. I deposited a little money into my investment account to build up the cash to invest, but it is not enough at the moment. I still have some cash set aside in my Rollover IRA account that is just sitting there for future purchases. I was planning on making a purchase, but I did not get around to doing a little research on some companies. Possibly next week, I will make a purchase. I am looking at Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) since the price seems like a bargain below $100. I plan on having JNJ as one of my core holdings and would like to increase my position at these prices. I am also looking at possibly adding Waste Management (WM) in the next couple weeks. We all need garbage disposal and waste and energy management, so I’ll dig a little deeper into the company and possibly add it to my portfolio.

I Received Dividends!

So far this month I received dividend payments from the following companies:

Cola Cola (KO): $0.89

Nike (NKE): $.093

Phillip Morris (PM): $13.00

Realty Income (O): $3.79

Walmart (WMT): $0.89

Total Dividends this month so far is $18.72.

KO, NKE, and WMT are in my Loyal3 account, which does not have a DRIP, yet. PM and O are in my IRA and are enrolled in a DRIP. For some reason, though, the dividends were not reinvested back into the company and was paid out. I have to look into this because I want to DRIP these dividends until I can accumulate a decent amount of dividend so that I can selectively reinvest it. I wonder if I signed up for the DRIP too late, or it takes some time to go into effect. I’ll see how these next couple months of dividends are and will reassess.

Being the visual guy that I am, I made a chart showing my monthly dividends with a three month moving average line. It’s a small, paltry sum of money that I am collecting in the form of dividends, but it’s exciting to see that moving average line slowly move up and to the right!

I hope everyone has a great week!

Cheers!

Thanks for the encouragement, Tyler! It is pretty awesome knowing that the dividends are going to just be increasing from here! It’s a marathon and I’m just left the starting gates!

Congrats! Once I get my debt handled I’m going to up my investment strategy. I’ve heard good things about setting up a dividend ladder, is that what you are doing?

Hi Jason, thanks for stopping by! I am not too familiar with a dividend ladder. I have to look that term up. I am still fairly new to dividend investing and my strategy is to find some quality dividend growth stocks and buy them at a fair value. I am reinvesting all my dividends back into the stock until I can selectively reinvest in other companies.
