Thinking of a GPS Watch

I’ve been contemplating on buying a GPS watch for my runs. Currently, I use my Nike+ Running App to track my runs. It works great because it tracks my time and distance. It tells me my mileage through my earphones. It also integrates well with facebook and twitter.

The one thing that drives me to look into GPS watches is that when I am on my long runs, it drains my phone battery fairly quick. Also, I want something that will provide me with more information regarding my runs such as split times.

But…. we shall see. I have to do a little more research on this tech toy before investing in one. And plus, it’s the holiday season so I won’t have time to do the research until the New Year!

Do you use a GPS running watch on your runs? If so, which one do you use and what do you like about it?

Thanks for stopping by!

I like my Garmin 405. It’s old but still works great! Garmin has the most support for 3rd party websites like Strava, etc.

Cool! I was looking at the Garmin products. Do you use yours exclusively for runs or do you use it also for your cycling? I don’t know if I want to get an entry-level watch or pony up the extra cash to get one that I can use for a while. What do you like most about your watch?

I use the 405 just for running, although I can use it for cycling too. The Edge 500 has a better display for stats. Here’s example data that get’s pulled on garmin. but I also upload to Strava and Dailymile: http://connect.garmin.com/activity/245028531

Cool thanks!! I guess I have to make a decision if I want to track my runs somewhere other than the Nike+ site.

I don’t use a GPS when I run, I just use the app: Map my Fitness. Perhaps one day I might consider a GPS when I get faster, but since I’m fairly new at running, I’m not concerned with my times. My husband uses a GPS whenever he goes on his bike rides and his paddles….he LOVES it and it gives him a TON of information, pretty sure he has a Garmin.
